A Google Desktop Warning

If you are using Google desktop you need to configure it properly or risk a lot more than you think.

"Unless you configure Google Desktop very carefully, and few people
will, Google will have copies of your tax returns, love letters,
business records, financial and medical files, and whatever other
text-based documents the desktop software can index," EFF Staff
Attorney Kevin Bankston said.

I found this story penned by John Leydon for The Register and though it worth of your attention.

I for one would like to keep my private things …. private.  As the story hints at, if you have problems, it could be a real bonus for among others, the tax man 🙁

For those of you reading this.  Always think about security.  Just ‘cos a programme works on your computer doesn’t mean it’s safe!

I’m sure any security ‘itches’ with programmes or applications written by (or for) big companies will get resolved but ….

Sometimes in internet world it’s best not to be on the bleeding edge.
